We install and service DoorKing gate operators and full gate systems across Dallas as an independent DoorKing service provider. Most DoorKing installations take one full day on site, and we quote a written price before any work begins so the number doesn’t move once we’re through your gate. If you’re in Dallas and your DoorKing system needs a new operator, a track replacement, or a full gate install, call (940) 531-9746 and a live person picks up.
This page is written for Dallas homeowners who already own DoorKing equipment, or are considering it, and want to know what real installation looks like from a crew that works on these systems every week. We’re not a general contractor picking up gate work on the side. Gates are what we do.
How DoorKing Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
DoorKing builds solid operators, but every brand has patterns. After years of running calls across Dallas, here’s what we see most often and what we actually do about it.
- Limit switch drift on the 9150 and 9300 series slide operators. The limit switches control where the gate stops. Over time, vibration and temperature swings in Dallas clay soil cause mounts to loosen and the gate to over-travel or stop short. We reset and secure the limit assembly, then run the gate through a full open-close cycle with the safety edges tested. If the switch itself is worn, we replace it with an OEM limit switch, not a generic substitute that doesn’t match the actuator stroke.
- Gearbox oil leaks in the 9100 series swing operators. DoorKing swing operators use a worm gearbox that runs in oil. When the seal fails, the operator gets loud, then the gearbox runs dry and burns. By the time a Dallas homeowner hears the grinding, the damage is usually done. We don’t just top off oil; we inspect the gear teeth, replace the seal, and refill with the correct grade. If the gears show scoring, we tell you straight and quote a gearbox replacement.
- Capacitor failure on startup. The start capacitor gives the motor its first kick. In Dallas heat, capacitors age faster than the rest of the operator. The symptom is a dead door: you press the remote, you hear a click, nothing moves. We test the capacitor under load, not just with a meter at rest, because a weak capacitor often tests fine until current hits it. It’s a cheap part and a fast fix when caught early.
- Photocell alignment issues on the 1601 barrier gate and pedestrian gate installs. DoorKing’s factory settings assume perfectly plumb posts. Dallas concrete work doesn’t always cooperate. When a gate post settles a quarter inch, the photo eye loses alignment and the gate refuses to close. We shim, re-bore, or reset the post mount until the beam holds across the full travel. If the post is too far gone, we say so before ordering parts.
- Circuit board failures from power surges in the 9050 and 9150 slide operators. North Texas storms bring power flickers that spike the board. The gate works one day, then the remote doesn’t respond at all. We check the transformer output first, then the board. If it’s the board, we install a replacement and add a surge protector at the operator, which DoorKing doesn’t include from the factory. That’s a $40 part that saves a $400 board on the next storm.
Lonnie Burke has diagnosed these failures so many times across Dallas, including along the Kessler Park corridor, that he can usually tell you the cause over the phone before we even dispatch. His rule is simple: “If I can’t tell you exactly what’s wrong before I touch it, I haven’t looked closely enough.”

Our DoorKing Gate Installation Process
A DoorKing install follows the same sequence every time. No surprises, no wandering around the property wondering what to do next.
- 1
The phone call. You tell us what’s happening. We ask specific questions about the gate type, the operator model, and the symptoms. We give you a ballpark range on the call so you know what to expect before we even schedule.
- 2
The site check. We measure the gate, check the posts, confirm the operator model, and look at the power run. If there’s a problem with the foundation, the electrical, or the existing hardware, we point it out before quoting.
- 3
The written price. You get the number on paper before any work starts. The price covers the parts, the labor, and exactly what we’ll do. It doesn’t change when the job opens.
- 4
The install. Background-checked, uniformed technicians handle the work. We use OEM DoorKing parts where it matters for compatibility and warranty, and quality aftermarket parts where they’re honestly just as good and cost less. We’ll tell you which is which.
- 5
The test. We cycle the gate open and closed multiple times, check the safety edges, test the loop detector if there’s one, and verify the remote range. You watch it work before we call it done.
- 6
The guarantee. Every DoorKing repair and install is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. It’s in writing. If it fails within a year, we come back free.

- Replacing a DoorKing 9100 swing operator: $1,400 – $2,100 installed.

Why Dallas Homeowners Call Carver Gate Repair Dallas for DoorKing Work
We’re a gate company, not a contractor who happens to do gates sometimes. Every job runs on The Garrison Standard: a written price before work starts, background-checked and uniformed technicians on site, and a written guarantee on every repair, good for a full year. If a repair fails inside that year, the second visit is free. No charge, no argument.
Our guys work on DoorKing systems every week, but they also know LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. If your property has two gates with two different brands, one crew handles both. Phones are answered by a live person 24 hours a day, every day, including weekends and holidays. When your gate won’t open at 6 a.m. on a Tuesday, you get a person, not a voicemail box.
Part of the Garrison Partners family, operating to The Garrison Standard since 2008. Every Carver Gate Repair location is independently owned and operated, but bound to the same standard, so the promise doesn’t change from market to market.
FAQs
No. Installing an operator we supply does not void a DoorKing warranty on the gate itself. We’re an independent DoorKing service provider, so we’re not bound by factory service restrictions, and we use OEM parts where compatibility and warranty protection matter.
Most common DoorKing parts, like boards, limit switches, and capacitors, are available locally or within one to two business days through regional distributors we’ve worked with for years. For less common parts, we tell you the lead time before you commit to anything.
If the operator is under 10 years old and the failure is a limit switch, capacitor, or board, repair usually makes sense. If the gearbox is worn, the motor is burned, or the unit has multiple failing components, replacement is often cheaper over two years than stacking repairs. We’ll give you both numbers and let you decide.
Yes. We install DoorKing operators on existing gates all the time in Dallas. We check the gate weight, the post alignment, and the travel path before quoting, because a misaligned gate will chew through any operator regardless of brand.
We don’t promise same-day installs; a proper installation is measured, ordered, and scheduled. We do offer free measurements and written estimates, usually within one to two business days. Call (940) 531-9746 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
