We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible welded gate frames, hinge reinforcements, and custom bracket fabrication across Dallas, with most welded repairs running $225 – $550 installed depending on the damage and material. We keep common Mighty Mule mounting plates and hinge weldments on the truck, so most jobs are done in a single visit. The way homeowners usually find us is simple: the gate starts dragging, the opener strains, and on inspection the weld at the hinge or the post bracket has cracked through. Texas heat and clay soil movement are hard on welded gate hardware, and Mighty Mule openers are tough enough that the motor usually outlasts the steel around it.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
This page covers welded steel fabrication for Mighty Mule swing gate systems: the MM260, MM360, MM371, MM372, MM571, MM572, and the newer MM462/MM464 series, plus older FM500 and FM502 units still running in Dallas neighborhoods like Lake Highlands and Casa View. The welded parts that fail on these systems are the hinge brackets, the opener mounting plate, and the gate frame itself where the opener post attaches. Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Mighty Mule redesigned their post bracket pattern around 2015, so a bracket from an old FM500 will not line up with an MM572 mounting plate without modification. We match by measuring the bolt spread on the bracket, not by the opener model number alone, because we’ve seen too many parts bought by model number that don’t fit the post hardware that’s actually installed.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question for Mighty Mule: Mighty Mule’s own replacement brackets are fine for bolt-on fixes, but the factory steel is thinner than what a Dallas welder will typically use for a permanent repair. We fabricate brackets from 1/4-inch plate steel where the factory part runs closer to 11-gauge. When the frame itself is cracked, we cut out the failed section and weld in new steel rather than patching over the crack, because a patch weld in the same stress line will fail again, usually within a season. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mighty Mule, and we’ll tell you plainly when an OEM part is the better call versus when fabrication makes more sense.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the hinge end. This usually means the hinge weld or the post bracket has started to separate. The opener will compensate by working harder, and you’ll hear it. The sag itself is a symptom, not the problem.
- The opener pushes the gate but the gate doesn’t move smoothly. A cracked weld at the opener post allows flex in the mount, so the motor’s force goes into bending the bracket instead of swinging the gate. Left alone, this crack scores through the mounting plate and the opener tears loose.
- You can see daylight through a weld joint. If a weld line has cracked all the way through, the gate is hanging on the remaining weld and the fasteners, which were never meant to carry that load alone. This is the stage right before the gate drops.
- The gate post moves or leans. Dallas clay expands and contracts with the weather, and a post that shifts a little every cycle works the weld until it snaps. We see this constantly in the Kessler Park corridor where the soil is particularly active.
- You hear a creak or pop at the hinge each time the gate cycles. That sound is the weld grinding against itself as it flexes. It’s the metal telling you it’s already broken and holding on by friction.
If any of these sound familiar, call us at (940) 531-9746 before the gate comes off the post. A gate that drops on a vehicle or a person is an injury and a liability, and the repair after a full failure costs more than the weld that would have prevented it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, welded hinge bracket replacement on a Mighty Mule gate typically runs $225 – $350 per bracket installed. A full hinge replacement with new fabricated brackets and heavier hinge pins runs $350 – $550 per gate. Opener mounting plate fabrication and weld-in runs $275 – $450 depending on access and whether we’re reinforcing the surrounding frame steel. Gate frame crack repair runs $200 – $400 per crack, with the higher end covering cut-out and section-in rather than a simple grind-and-weld.
The range is driven by steel thickness, access to the post, and whether the existing weld has to be removed before we can lay a clean one. Every job gets a written price before we touch the gate, and that number doesn’t move at the door. Our weld work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That guarantee is written on the invoice, not assumed.
DIY or Call Us?
Welding on a gate that’s under tension from its own weight, plus the opener, is not a weekend project for most homeowners. A weld that looks good but lacks penetration will hold for a few weeks and then fail, usually worse than the original crack. There’s also the electrical side: Mighty Mule openers run on 12V or 24V DC systems with enough current to arc a welder if the control board isn’t isolated. If you weld on the gate without disconnecting the opener, you can fry the control board, and that’s a motor repair on top of the fabrication.
What you can check safely: look for visible cracks, sag, and post movement, and take photos before you call. If the gate still opens and closes but makes noise, shut the opener off at the breaker and use the manual release to move the gate until we arrive. Don’t try to weld it yourself, and don’t have a general handyman “stick a bead on it.” A bad weld on a Mighty Mule swing gate is worse than no weld. Call (940) 531-9746 and we’ll look at it properly.
FAQs
Factory Mighty Mule brackets typically last 5 to 8 years in Dallas before movement and corrosion take their toll, while our fabricated 1/4-inch steel brackets routinely run 10 to 15 years because they’re thicker than the factory part and welded rather than bolted. Soil movement shortens that lifespan more than anything else. Call (940) 531-9746 if you want us to look at what’s on your gate now.
We can weld many cracked brackets, but if the steel is thinned from corrosion or the crack runs through a bolt hole, replacement fabrication is the honest answer. Lonnie Burke’s rule is that if the repair won’t outlast the warranty, we won’t sell it to you. Call (940) 531-9746 for an assessment.
Most single-bracket or mounting plate welds are done in under two hours on site, including grind-out, weld, and paint. Full hinge replacements with new fabricated brackets run three to four hours for a residential swing gate. Call (940) 531-9746 and we’ll give you a window based on the damage.
We stock common Mighty Mule hinge brackets, mounting plates, and opener post reinforcements on the truck, along with steel stock to fabricate what’s not factory-available. If your gate needs something outside the standard patterns, we measure on site and fabricate on the same visit, or schedule the weld once the part is cut. Call (940) 531-9746 with your opener model and we’ll tell you what we have before we roll.
