If you have a BFT gate or access system in Dallas and a keypad, card reader, or control board has stopped responding, we can usually replace it same day. Typical installed cost for BFT access control work in the Dallas market runs $380 to $900, depending on the component and wiring condition. Most owners discover the failure the hard way: a keypad stops lighting up, the remote still works but the keypad won’t, or the gate opens on its own at odd hours. That last one usually means the control board has a relay sticking, and it needs attention before the gate does something expensive.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
We install BFT-compatible access control on the BFT Deimos, Rigel, Phobos, and Ares lines, along with older BFT models still running across Dallas neighborhoods like Preston Hollow, Lake Highlands, and the Kessler Park corridor. The compatibility gotcha with BFT gear is the board revision. A BFT Deimos BT control board built in 2016 will not always accept a 2024 keypad without a firmware flash or an external receiver. We check the board serial before quoting a keypad swap, because guessing gets expensive.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, BFT OEM keypads and readers run $140 to $260 for the part alone. Quality aftermarket alternatives from brands like Farpointe and TransCore run $60 to $125 and are often more reliable in the Dallas heat. For the control board itself, we recommend OEM. Aftermarket boards on BFT swing operators cause phantom inputs and intermittent failures we’d rather not chase. Carver Gate Repair Dallas independently services BFT equipment and is not affiliated with BFT.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad has power but won’t open the gate. The keypad lights up but nothing moves, which typically points to a failed relay on the control board. The board is receiving the code but not closing the circuit to the operator.
- Gate opens without anyone entering a code. A sticking relay or a failing card reader sending phantom signals will do this. In Dallas we see it most often after thunderstorms when a ground loop develops on the reader line.
- Some codes work, others don’t. Memory corruption on the access board. BFT boards store codes in EEPROM that degrades over time, especially after power surges.
- Card reader works intermittently. Usually a wiring issue at the reader head or moisture intrusion in the reader housing. Dallas humidity and hard rain will find any unsealed penetration.
- Remote controls work, but the keypad does nothing. The operator is fine, which isolates the issue to the access control input on the board. This is often repairable without replacing the entire board.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, figure on these installed ranges, written and agreed before we start work:
- Keypad replacement: $280 to $420 installed
- Card reader replacement: $320 to $485 installed
- Control board replacement: $450 to $780 installed
- Full access control rewire: $580 to $900 installed
What moves the price: wire condition, conduit runs, how far the keypad sits from the operator, and whether we’re dealing with a board revision that needs extra integration time. Every job gets a written price before the first screw comes out. The number doesn’t move at the door, and the repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the access control repair fails inside a year, the second visit is free, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
Low-voltage access control wire and boards aren’t in the same danger class as gate springs or mains power, but you’re still working inside a control box with live voltage present at the operator terminals. We’ve seen boards fried by a homeowner’s voltmeter probe slipping across terminals. If you want to check something yourself, verify power at the outlet and look for a blown fuse on the board, those are safe to eyeball. Past that, we’d rather you call us.
Lonnie Burke has spent the better part of two decades diagnosing BFT failures in Dallas, including the Kessler Park corridor. He’ll tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: if he can’t tell you exactly what’s wrong before he touches it, he hasn’t looked closely enough. Call (940) 531-9746 and we’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician with the right BFT parts on the truck.
FAQs
Keypads and readers typically last 5 to 8 years in the Dallas climate before either moisture intrusion or UV damage takes them out. Control boards average 8 to 12 years, though power surges from Texas storms shorten that considerably without a surge suppressor on the circuit. If your BFT gear is past the 10-year mark and showing intermittent faults, replacement is usually cheaper than repeated service calls. Call (940) 531-9746 and we’ll give you an honest read on what’s left in the system.
Sometimes, yes. A control board with one bad relay can often be repaired, and corroded reader terminals can be cleaned and resealed. The tipping point is board revision and part availability. A lot of older BFT boards in Dallas are still running because the relays are field-serviceable. If the EEPROM is failing or the board traces are lifting, replacement is the better call. We’ll show you the problem before we recommend spending money.
A keypad or card reader swap usually takes 60 to 90 minutes on site. A control board replacement takes 2 to 3 hours including programming and testing. If we’re rewiring exterior conduit, add another hour. Most Dallas jobs are done in a single visit, and we leave the site clean and the gate tested with every code the homeowner uses.
We stock BFT-compatible keypads, card readers, receivers, and the most common control boards on our service vehicles, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. The truck is organized by brand and model line so our technician can grab the part without a second trip to a supply house. If your BFT model needs something oddball, we’ll have it in hand before we schedule the install.
