If you own a Viking gate operator and a weld has cracked, a hinge has torn loose, or a mounting plate has bent out of square, we stock Viking-compatible fabrication parts and can usually have the repair done within one to two business days in Dallas. Typical installed cost for welding and fabrication work on a Viking gate system in Dallas runs from $180 for a small bracket repair to $800 or more for a structural gate frame rebuild, depending on the extent of the damage and the gauge of steel involved. Most Dallas homeowners discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts dragging, the operator strains, or in the worst case, the gate sags visibly at the hinge line and won’t close square.
Lonnie Burke has been diagnosing Viking gate failures across Dallas for the better part of two decades, and the welding and fabrication side is where he sees the most repeat problems. The operator usually still works. It’s the steel around it that has given up.
Key takeaways:
- We fabricate and install Viking-compatible weldments, hinge assemblies, and mounting plates in Dallas, with written pricing before any work begins.

- We carry a working stock of Viking hinge barrels, gate frame tubing, and operator mounting hardware on the truck.
- Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
- Call (940) 531-9746 and a live person answers, day or night.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking gate operators are used across a wide range of residential and light commercial swing and slide gates in Dallas, and the welding and fabrication needs vary by model line. The Viking L-3 and G-5 swing operators bolt to a steel mounting plate welded to the gate frame or a steel post. The Viking R-6 and S-2 slide operators ride on a steel track welded or bolted to the gate’s bottom rail. The common thread: the operator itself is rarely the welding problem. It’s the steel it attaches to.
Identifying the right fabrication part starts with the operator model, which is printed on the side of the motor housing. From there, we measure the gate frame material, typically 1.5-inch or 2-inch square tube in 14-gauge or 11-gauge wall thickness. A 14-gauge tube fence gate that has been swinging on Viking hinges for eight or ten Dallas summers will fail differently than an 11-gauge industrial slide gate. The repair has to match the original steel, not just the operator. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Viking-specific mounting plates and hinge weldments, we fabricate in-house to the original dimensions. For generic steel tube and plate, we use domestic A36 structural steel. There is no reason to pay OEM markup on raw steel, but the weldment geometry has to be right the first time. We match it before we cut.
Carver Gate Repair Dallas is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Viking. The parts we fabricate are built to work with Viking equipment, but they come from our shop, not the Viking factory.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the latch end and scrapes the ground or the track. This usually means the hinge barrel has worn oval or the hinge weld itself has cracked at the gate frame. The operator keeps pushing, but the gate is no longer square, and every cycle makes the crack longer.
- You hear a popping or creaking sound at the hinge or the mount point during opening. That is the sound of a weld flexing. A solid weld should be silent. Popping means the weld has partially separated and the two pieces are moving against each other under load.
- The operator mounting plate has visible cracks around the bolt holes. Dallas wind loads and repeated cycling fatigue steel at the bolt pattern. Once cracks appear, the plate is compromised and the operator can shift, pulling the drive arm out of alignment.
- The gate frame has rust weeping from a joint or a visibly split seam. Water gets inside square tube steel, sits in the bottom rail, and rusts from the inside out. By the time you see a split, the tube wall is thin enough to fold under its own weight.
- The operator runs but the gate shudders or stalls midway. A warped or cracked frame will bind the gate in the track or twist the hinge line, and the operator’s limit switch will trip or the motor will labor. The electrical side is fine; the steel has moved.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, expect to pay between $180 and $350 for a small fabrication repair like a cracked hinge weld, a bent operator mounting tab, or a short section of replaced gate frame tubing. Larger structural work, such as re-hanging a heavy slide gate, rebuilding a hinge post, or fabricating a new mounting plate for a Viking R-6 slide operator, typically lands between $400 and $800. The range depends on the amount of steel to be cut out and replaced, the wall thickness of the original material, and whether the gate has to be lifted off its hinges to work on it.
Every quote we give in Dallas is a written price, delivered before any cutting or welding starts. It includes the fabricated part, the labor to remove the damaged section and weld in the new one, and cleanup of the work area. You sign off on the number before we strike an arc. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. No argument, no re-quote.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely inspect the gate yourself: look for visible cracks at the hinge welds, check the operator mounting bolts for looseness, and run the gate once while watching the hinge line. If the gate wobbles or the post moves, you have found the problem. What you should not do is weld on a gate that is suspended, under spring tension, or connected to a live operator. Viking gate operators can deliver enough force to break fingers or crush a hand if the gate shifts during welding. A gate that is mid-fall or under load is not something to prop with a jack stand and hope.
Welding also requires cutting out the failed steel, grinding a clean joint, and matching the weld to the original tube thickness. A cold or shallow weld will look fine for six months and then fail worse than the original. If the frame has rusted thin from the inside, the repair is more than a bead; it’s a replacement section. If you are unsure whether the damage is repairable or needs new steel, call (940) 531-9746. We will look at it, tell you exactly what is wrong, and give you a written price. If I can’t tell you exactly what’s wrong before I touch it, I haven’t looked closely enough.
FAQs
A properly welded gate joint on a Viking swing or slide gate in Dallas should last 10 to 15 years before rust or fatigue starts to show. The variables are exposure to sprinkler overspray, standing water in the bottom rail, and how often the gate cycles. A gate that cycles 30 times a day will fatigue a hinge weld faster than one that cycles 10 times a day. If a weld fails inside five years, the original joint was either undercut or the steel was too thin for the gate’s weight. Call us at (940) 531-9746 for an inspection and a written quote.
Most cracked welds on Viking gate hardware can be repaired by grinding out the failed bead, cutting back to clean steel, and re-welding with proper penetration. The exception is when the surrounding tube wall has rusted thin from the inside; then the section has to be cut out and replaced. We make that call on site and show you what we are seeing before quoting the repair.
A single hinge or bracket weld on a Viking gate in Dallas is typically a two to three hour job, including cleanup. A structural rebuild that requires lifting the gate, cutting out a section of frame, and fabricating a new mounting assembly usually takes half a day to a full day. We quote the time along with the price, in writing, before work begins.
We carry common fabrication stock on the truck in Dallas: 1.5-inch and 2-inch square tube in 14-gauge and 11-gauge, flat bar for gussets, hinge barrels sized to Viking swing gates, and plate steel for operator mounts. For part stock outside of welding steel, we also carry components for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If the job needs material we don’t have on hand, we source it locally and schedule the repair. Call (940) 531-9746 and we will tell you what we can do, when we can do it, and what it will cost.
